Unlimited vacation policies are a sham in most companies

I've seen this firsthand at my last job - they sold us on "unlimited vacation," but in reality, it meant nobody wanted to take time off because it wasn't officially tracked. So people ended up taking even less vacation than before! It's like a mirage in the desert - looks good from afar, but get up close, and there's nothing there.

Totally agree with this! Unlimited vacation policies sound great in theory, but in reality, most companies don't encourage employees to actually use it. It's just a way for them to avoid paying out unused vacation days when someone leaves. I'd rather have a set number of days off that I know I can actually take without feeling guilty or judged.
