Social media influencers are harmful to society

The rise of influencer culture promotes materialism and unrealistic standards, but do influencers provide any real value to society?

In my opinion, social media influencers can be seriously harmful. I mean, come on, they're out here promoting this picture-perfect lifestyle that's totally unrealistic. Let's be real, we need more authenticity and less filters on our feeds.

Totally, influencers can be so toxic sometimes. I've seen my younger sister trying to copy these unrealistic lifestyles they project, spending money she doesn't have on stuff she doesn't need just to keep up. It's all fake and manufactured, pushing people to strive for this unattainable perfection. We need to focus on genuine role models who promote real values, not just flashy endorsements.

I get why some folks think influencers are harmful, but come on, they're not all bad news. I mean, they can raise awareness on important issues, promote small businesses, and even provide a sense of community for their followers. It's not all about just selling stuff and looking perfect, you know.

I get the whole "influencers are harmful" argument, but come on, not all influencers are bad. Some actually use their platform for good - raising awareness, promoting important causes; you can't just lump them all together and dismiss their impact. Plus, it's up to us as consumers to be critical and not just blindly follow everything they say. My sister follows this fitness influencer who actually gave legit advice that helped her get in shape, so they're not all about selling out.

Hm, I hear you on that. But do you think individual success stories can outweigh potential harm on a larger scale?

I get where you're coming from, but it's tough to filter out the good from the bad. A few decent ones shouldn't overshadow the potential harm the influencer scene can do.

Totally agree! It's all about discerning who you follow and being aware of the content's impact. My fave fitness influencer has some solid workout tips too – makes a difference when they're genuine, right?
