GMOs are safe for consumption and help in addressing global food insecurity

I just can't get on board with this. GMOs might have potential benefits, but we can't ignore the long-term effects they might have on our health and the environment. My neighbor's farm switched to GMO crops, and the soil quality has taken a hit since then. Until there's more solid evidence on their safety, I'm skeptical.
