Genetically modified foods are safe for consumption and beneficial for food sustainability

I get the whole idea of GMOs helping with food supply, but honestly, I'm not sold. I mean, who knows what kind of long-term effects messing with genetics could have on our health, right? Plus, do we really want mega-corporations controlling our food sources even more than they already do? It just seems like a risky road to go down, in my opinion.
