Customer loyalty programs do more harm than good in the long run

Are rewards programs really worth it, or do they just encourage unnecessary spending?

I've fallen into the customer loyalty program trap before. Getting that "20% off your next purchase" sounds sweet, but then you end up buying things you don't really need just to use the discount. It's like they reel you in with the promise of savings, but end up making you spend more in the long run.

I feel like customer loyalty programs can low-key trap you into spending more just to get those rewards. Like, I get it, free stuff sounds awesome, but let's be real - they wouldn't do it if they weren't making more money off of us in the long run. Been there, spent way too much chasing those points, not falling for it again.

Absolutely agree with this! I used to be hooked on a coffee shop loyalty program, buying way more than I needed just to get a freebie. It preys on our urge to feel like we're getting a deal, but in reality, we're spending more than if we just paid for what we actually wanted. Plus, it's not like these companies are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts - they're making bank off of our tendency to overspend.

I get what you're saying, but for me, those loyalty programs have actually helped me save money in the long run. It's all about finding a balance, I guess.
