All politicians should be required to pass regular competency tests
Should politicians have to prove their skills periodically like many other professions do?

Absolutely, politicians should be required to pass competency tests regularly. I mean, we need qualified people making important decisions that affect all of us, right? It's like any other job - you gotta prove you can do it well, not just talk the talk. My kid's teacher has to keep up with training, so why not our lawmakers?

As a teacher, I have to constantly prove my skills through evaluations and professional development. Why shouldn't politicians have to do the same? We trust them to make decisions that impact our lives – they should at least prove they're competent to do so.

I'm sorry, but this idea sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Competency tests for politicians would probably end up being biased or manipulated by whoever's in power. Plus, just passing tests doesn't mean someone will actually be a good leader - look at all the people with fancy degrees who still make terrible decisions! Let's stick to holding politicians accountable through their actions and the will of the people.

I used to think this was a good idea, you know like ‘Yeah, we need competent people in charge!’ But then I realized who decides what’s competent? And how often do they change the goalposts? Soon it's less about doing a good job and more about jumping through hoops. No thanks, I’d rather my elected officials focus on, you know, actually governing.

I get that politicians should be held accountable, but come on, we don't need them taking tests like they're back in school. Being a good leader is about more than acing a quiz. If they mess up, we can vote them out - that's the real competency test, isn't it?
