You know what, I totally agree with this! I never went to college, and I do just fine. I work as a mechanic, and let me tell you, no fancy degree helped me fix those cars. People act like college is the only way to succeed, but real skills and hard work matter more in the long run.

Man, college degrees costing an arm and a leg with no guarantee of a good job afterward? Count me out! I've seen so many folks drowning in student debt, doing jobs they could've landed without that degree. Let's face it, the market values experience and skills more than a piece of paper these days.

Right? It's crazy how things have shifted. Experience seems to be king these days.

Colleges have become businesses focused on amenities and administration. Tuition goes to fancy dorms and layers of management, not education.

Average student debt is like $30k and growing. Average starting salary for grads hasn't kept pace. The math just doesn't work out anymore for most fields.

Totally agree. It's tricky when the numbers just don't add up like they used to.

I know so many people with degrees working retail jobs. They're exactly where they'd be without the degree except now they have debt.

This might be true in some cases but you can't generalize it like that.

Totally agree. Seems like the job market's calling the shots these days, not the degrees.
Jan 23, 2026
Wait, so do you think it's more about the type of degree or where it's from, or is the whole system just broken?

I get what you're saying, but I think it depends on the field. In some industries, a degree is still a solid investment that opens doors.

I get it, college can be crazy expensive these days, but saying it's not worth it? Come on now. I mean, sure, I've got student loans coming out of my ears, but I also got a job I love because of that degree. Sometimes you gotta play the long game, you know what I mean?

I gotta say, I respectfully disagree with this. Sure, college is expensive, but let's not forget the opportunities it opens up! I mean, personally, my degree landed me my dream job. It's not just about the money - it's about the growth, the connections, all of it.

The student debt crisis is real but the solution is fixing costs, not telling people education is worthless. We should make college affordable, not give up on it.
Jan 17, 2026
I get your point, but making college affordable is easier said than done. It's a complex issue, but just lowering costs might not solve everything.

For many careers - medicine, law, engineering, research - you literally cannot enter the field without advanced degrees. College isn't optional for everyone.
Jan 14, 2026
The fact that this is even debatable shows how disconnected some people are from reality.

Education isn't just about job training. Learning to think critically, exposure to different ideas, becoming a more informed citizen - that has value beyond salary.
Jan 14, 2026
That sounds nice in theory but it doesn't hold up when you look at what actually happens.
